ONIA 2006 Speakers


Hon. Marcelo Adanza, Provincial Board Member, gave the speech of Governor George Arnaiz congratulating all the winners of this year's ONIA.

Engr. Boni Commandante, of BUHI, shared his experiences since winning the first ONIA (known in 2003 as the NOBDF Innovation Awards). Boni encouraged the participants and the students present, and exhorted them to go for their dreams.

FU President, Dr. Mira D. Sinco, congratulated all the winners and participants, and expressed their support for educational and entrepreneurial activities involving the schools in the city. Posted by Picasa

ONIA 2006 Audience


The teams' classmates and those who had joined but did not make it to the finals, all came to listen to the full business plan presentations and the elevator pitch competition. Present were students and teachers from various colleges of Foundation University, St. Paul University, Silliman University, the State University, Colegio de Santa Catalina de Alejandria, Asian College of Science & Technology, AMA and STI. Representatives from the business, government and non-government sectors also came to the competition.

Important Changes in ONIA 2005-2006

ALL TEN (10) teams that passed the initial stage are now qualified to present their business plans to the panel of judges on Feb 17 (Friday), instead of just the top 5 teams. This move was decided on following the visit of AIM Entrepreneurship professor and TOYM awardee, Jay Bernardo. The format will be similar to the one used in international competitions such as the Sasin Moot Corp Competition http://www.asianmootcorp.com/.

Please take note of the revised deadline/timeframe:

Jan 30, 2006 at 12 noon - Deadline for full business plan (Note: should not be more than 25 pages including figures, appendices etc. and should be submitted in SEVEN (7) hard copies including one (1) soft copy; to be hand delivered to TVB Group at The Village Bookstore, #1 Noblefranca St., Dumaguete City OR the DTI Office, 2nd floor Uymatiao Building, San Jose St., Dumaguete City).

Feb 11 - Workshop on Presentation Skills. This will be at 9am at the DTI
Conference Room

Feb 16 - Round Table discussions with the judges. All semi-finalists are invited to attend. This will be from 5-7pm at the 3rd floor of Flores Hall, Foundation University. You will have the opportunity not just to meet the judges but
to listen to them talk about their passions.

Feb 17 ONIA Finals
8am - Opening Program and Elevator Pitch Competition at the 3rd floor, Flores Hall, Foundation University
9am - 12nn - Presentation of Business Plans at the AV Rooms, IT Center, Foundation University
2pm - 4:30pm - Final Judging of top 5 teams

5pm - 6pm - Closing/Awarding Ceremony at the 3rd floor, Flores Hall, Foundation University

Workshop 3: Creating A Winning Business Plan


Francisco "Jay" Bernardo III, AIM Professor, and multi-awarded Entrepreneurship guru, this morning taught the teams what judges expect to see in an outstanding business plan. His audience included teachers from the various universities and some senior students from FU's College of Business, Economics and Accountancy.

Towards the end of his talk, and while discussing the oral presentations, Jay offered a P10,000 prize for The Best Elevator Pitch during the Finals. This award will be open to all the semi-finalists.

Workshop 1: Marketing Technology Ideas


Federico "Dickie" Gonzales, Executive Director of the Philippine Center for Entrepreneurship - one of the sponsors of the ONIA - and President of the Philippine Emerging Startups Open, at Foundation University's IT Center during his "Marketing Technology Ideas" Workshop this morning.

All the semi-finalist teams were represented, and some even brought their mentors and teachers along. A copy of Dickie's presentation will be available for download at the Workshops page of the Innovation Awards site soon.
